Need a book, movie, cd, or video game that we don’t have in the library? Send us a purchase request and give as many details as you can.
Can’t find an item in our catalog? Northlake patrons can request items from libraries throughout Illinois and the US. This kind of request is called an interlibrary loan (ILL). Contact us for help or find and request ILL items on your own through WorldCat Discovery.
FAQs
Anyone with a valid Northlake Public Library District library card can request ILL items. Anyone else must go to their home library.
You can request most kinds of items through ILL, including books, movies, CDs, and periodicals. However, it can be difficult for us to fulfill requests for brand new items and antique or rare items, such as genealogical records.
We ask that you limit your ILL requests to no more than five items at a time.
ILL items that come from libraries within Illinois are free. ILL items that come from libraries outside Illinois cost $5 each, but we never request out-of-state items without your permission.
If you damage or lose an ILL item, however, please contact us. You will be responsible for paying the replacement cost and/or any late fees, which are determined by the lending library.
ILL items usually take at least two weeks to arrive. We will notify you when an item arrives or if a request cannot be fulfilled.
The due date for an ILL item is set by the lending library, and will be written on the slip attached to its cover.
ILL items do not renew automatically. To request a renewal, you must contact us. Renewal requests are up to the lending library. We will notify you if a renewal request is accepted or rejected.
ILL items must be returned to the Northlake Public Library District, either to the front desk or in our outdoor book drop. They may not be returned to other SWAN libraries.
