Two Bobbies: A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship, and Survival, by Kirby Larson and Mary Nethery, illustrated by Jean Cassels
Call number: J 636.083 LAR (on the Monarch shelf)
Do you remember Hurricane Katrina? In 2005, this storm forced many people to abandon their homes. Some had to leave their beloved pets behind, too. This true story is about two pets, Bobbi the puppy and Bob Cat, who were left by their owners when they had to leave New Orleans. The two pets stuck together, trying to find food and shelter on their own. Finally, a rescue organization found them and took them in. Their story was so inspirational that the two animals appeared on T.V. and were adopted together by someone who saw the show.
This is a really amazing story. Bobbi (the dog) is so loyal to Bob Cat that he doesn’t let anyone they meet touch her until they find their new owner whom they can trust. The rescue workers discover that Bob Cat is blind, so she has been relying completing on her doggie friend to survive. People think that dogs and cats don’t get along, but this book proves that definitely isn’t true for every animal.
